NIMET warns of increased dust haze, flight disruptions | The Guardian Nigeria Newspaper - Nigeria and World News

A statement by the Director, Weather Forecasting Services, Zakariyau Abdulrasheed, noted that the expected state of the atmosphere from today would likely disrupt flight operations at some airports across the country, especially in the North. Combined with the dust already in suspension for the past two days, the fresh dust is expected to further deteriorate horizontal visibilities to values below 1,000m he said. This resulted in the lifting and southward propagation of dust into the country, Abdulrasheed said, adding that although stations over the northern part of the country are already in hazy conditions with visibility as low as 200m, especially the north east. The agency advised road-users to exercise caution and avoid over-speeding, especially in the morning when horizontal visibility is impaired, urging people allergic to dust to take necessary precautions to reduce exposure to dust and take their medications to alleviate its effect on their health. NIMET will continue to monitor the weather and keep the public updated by providing reliable daily weather forecast, the statement added.
